HYDERABAD: Sindh Assembly Member Khairunnisa Mughal has said that due to lack of awareness and some unknown causes, breast cancer cases are increasing in the country.

It could be controlled by imparting awareness about the disease among womenfolk so that they could share their problem with family and doctors without hesitation.

Addressing a seminar organised in Matiari on Saturday, the MPA said she was organising awareness seminars in all the districts of Sindh. A resolution was tabled in the Sindh Assembly to highlight healthcare issues women were facing, she added.

She urged the district administration, health management bodies and NGOs to come forward and play their role in providing knowledge to women on their health issues. She said media and civil society should make efforts also.

She said women health workers should be tasked to identify women suffering from breast cancer and they would be treated in Nimra Hospital of Jamshoro free of cost.

Matiari Deputy Commissioner Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi said that around 1 million women in the world were facing this issue and its leading cause was that women normally did not pay attention to it when its symptoms appeared. He said that such women were registered in other countries, but in Pakistan no such system existed.

He said quick attention and treatment were helpful for such women. The health department would be asked to train women health workers in this regard, he said, adding that women to be identified with cancer would be assisted and provided transport to be taken to Nimra Hospital.
