LAHORE: A suspected robber was shot dead and a police official injured in an alleged encounter in Nawab Town in the wee hours on Friday.

Police claimed a team was dispatched in response to a call on emergency 15 about four armed men intercepting a man near Shaukat Khanum Hospital. Headed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Irfan Summu, the team rushed to the site and surrounded the suspects.

The alleged robbers opened fire at police that was retaliated in which an unidentified suspect was killed. ASP Irfan also suffered bullet injuries, according to police.

The remaining suspects, however, managed to flee.

Police shifted the injured policeman to Jinnah Hospital where his condition was said to be stable.

Acting Deputy Inspector General (Investigation) Rana Ayyaz Saleem, Crimes Investigation Agency Superintendent of Police (SP) Umar Virk and Saddar Division SP Zahid Nawaz Marwat also reached the hospital to inquire after the official.
