LAKKI MARWAT: The influential Minakhel family of Lakki Marwat has split over the nomination of candidates for tehsil and district councils in the upcoming local body elections.

The clear division was witnessed during a jirga held at Minakhel Fort here the other day.

Former federal secretary and a member of Marwat Qaumi Jirga Akhtar Munir Khan Marwat chaired the meeting. former tehsil nazim Faredullah Khan, Dr Gul Rehman, JUI-Nazryati district chief Mufti Mohammad Khan Haqqani and elders of Lakki City-I union council were in attendance.

The meeting was convened to nominate candidates for tehsil and district councils with the consultation of the local elders. On the occasion, former tehsil nazim Mr Fareedullah said he won’t contest the local government elections as he had decided to let the field open for youths to come forward and serve the people in a better way.

Akhtar Munir presented the names of Mansoor Kamal Marwat, son of former provincial minister, late Anwar Kamal Khan, and Ishfaq Ahmad Khan Minakhel for the seats of tehsil and district councillors, respectively.

Elders from different clans supported the nomination of Mansoor Marwat and Ishfaq Minakhel and said they would make sincere efforts to ensure their win in the local body polls.

However, Dr Sarfraz Khan Minakhel, the grandson of former chief justice of Peshawar High Court, late Shah Nawaz Khan Minakhel, rejected the nomination of Mansoor Kamal and Ishfaq Khan, announcing that he would contest election for the post of tehsil councilor from Lakki City-I union council.
