CHITRAL: Director of Elementary and Secondary Education, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mohammad Rafique Khattak has said that the truant teachers in the public sector schools will be dealt with an iron hand.

Addressing a function on the occasion of launching enrolment campaign named ‘Ghar Aya Ustad’, here he said that hectic effort were underway to restore the confidence of people in government schools.

Mr Khattak said that enrolment campaign had been launched throughout the province so no child of school going age would remain without being enrolled in school. He said that active cooperation of civil society was vital to achieve the desired results.

Mr Khattak said that the provincial government was introducing reforms in the education sector, giving teachers the status they deserved in society.

Later, Mr Khattak formally inaugurated the campaign by enrolling a student of grade six named Taj Rasool in admission register of a school.

The elementary and secondary education director announced to bear the expenses of the student till his education up to secondary level.

The education official also led an awareness walk about the enrolment campaign which passed through the secretariat road. Teachers and students of government schools participated in the walk.

Different delegations of teachers associations, PTI workers and civil society activists also met the director and apprised him of their problems. He was informed that there had been gross irregularities in the transfers of female teachers, at which he promised to conduct an inquiry.
