SIALKOT: The ground of Government Girls Community Model Elementary School, Seehowal, Pasrur, has become a pond of sewage as wastewater from the village is disposed of into it and the students and teachers have to walk through the sewage to reach classrooms.

The students’ parents, including Khurram Shehzad, Saeed Ahmed, Abdul Majeed Butt and Arif Mehmood, say some influential people have diverted the village’s sewage to the school. They say the school’s ground has become a pond of dirty water and a breeding place for the mosquitoes and the education department is not willing to pay attention to it.

They warn of holding a protest in front of the office of District Monitoring Officer (DMO) Aamir Raza and District Coordination Officer (DCO) Nadeem Sarwar if the problem is not solved. The parents have urged Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Gujranwala Commissioner Division Shumail Ahmed Khawaja to look into the matter.

The school management says the situation has been repeatedly brought into the notice of the senior officials of education department but to no avail.

When contacted, Sialkot EDO (Education) Yaseen Junaid Butt said he would visit the school soon to assess the situation.

LANDMINES: The bomb disposal squad defused two anti-tank mines here on Thursday.

The people found the landmines from Nullah Dek near village Jandiyala-Zafarwal and informed police.

The bomb disposal squad officials said the landmines were India-made, weighing 14 pounds each and they were alive. They had floated into Pakistan from India during the recent flash floods.

SHOT DEAD: Four robbers shot dead a man on offering resistance at Phalwari Chowk, Shakargarh.

Akbar Ali, a bank employee, was going back to his village Chhajwana-Zafarwal at night when the four armed men intercepted him and started depriving him of his possessions. As he resisted, the robbers opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.

FLOWER SHOW: A flower show was organised at the Army Public Girls School Sialkot Cantt.

Hundreds of the students and their teachers participated in it. They dedicated the flower show to the martyred students and teachers of the APS Peshawar. Principal Fatima Naqvi inaugurated the show.
