India to help Sri Lanka in evacuation of its nationals from Yemen

COLOMBO: New Delhi has agreed to help Colombo rescue 67 Sri Lankans stranded in Yemen, officials said on Thursday. India’s nod followed a request by the Sri Lankan government for help in the repatriation of Lankans from Yemen.

Officials in Colombo said the evacuation of Sri Lankans would begin immediately after the completion of Indian nationals’ airlift.

Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ajith P. Perera, had last week instructed the Lankan High Commissioner in New Delhi and the embassy in Muscat, Oman, to liaise with India’s ministry of external affairs and the Indian embassies in Muscat and Sana’a to coordinate the evacuation process.

Poor choice by SL , more than 3000 Indian nationals are still left in Yemen waiting to be rescued and India does not have the means and contacts in Yemen to a secure location to latch on, SL should have contacted Pakistan we would have evacuated all SL nationals within a day.

Good step by India, which proves once again that India is a good & reliable neighbour. The nationals of Nepal & Bhutan should also be evacuated by India as a goodwill gesture.

At the time of Iraq war,evacuation of Indians were routed via ,and through Pakistan and at this critical moment India Pakistan Sri Lanka and Bangladesh must accommodate their citizens as much as possible.

@Zak Really !!! Pakistan ambassador himself fled away from Yemen leaving hundreds of Pakistanis behind and you gonna evacuate Sri Lankans. I think you have over-estimated Pakistan's potential.

There is nothing surprising in this. India has and will do anything which is an humanitarian cause, even if this means helping a not so friendly country. Keep up the good work and let's reconcile petty differences and collectively move forward.

@Zak I wonder from where you get always wrong figure and never updated..India has already evacuated all its citizens from yamen and now its helping other countries also...and srilank also opted the better option, obviously it would not go to countries which are not capable to save its own people ....

@Zak Rubbish!You guys don't have a capability to airlift 3000 people out of Karachi. Wach the story in Yemen carefully. It's just a matter of time that the same scenario will be played out in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. You've been lucky so far but your luck is going to run out. Only you people will have nowhere to run or hide. And we will continue to gloat over your collapse.
