KARACHI: Administrator South XI beat Karachi Gymkhana by 22 runs in the DMC South Green Karachi T20 Cricket Festival match here on Tuesday.
Batting first after winning the toss, the winners scored 161-6 with captain Kamran Munir scoring 70 (six fours) and Mohammad Ramzan making 46. Karachi Gymkhana’s Suhail Ahmed got 2-25 runs.
In reply, Karachi Gymkhana were restricted to 139-8 with left-arm spinner Iqbal Surti (4-28) and Samir Zulfiqar (3-21) amongst the pick of the bowlers. Mohammed Ali scored 36 and Farid Kasi made 34.
The chief guest Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Administrator DMC South Afzal Zaidi and President Karachi Gymkhana Jahangir Mughal gave away prizes among the players.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said the purpose of holding the Green Karachi sports festival was to create awareness amongst the youth about the significance of green ambience for the citizens so that they could play their role in checking environmental pollution and help minimise its hazardous effects on human health.
“Tree plantation can play an important role in changing the environment and the youth should be involved in the process for ensuring greenery in the city,” he said, while praising Administrator South Azal Zaidi, Municipal Commissioner Mohammad Raisi and Director Sports Asif Azeem for an admirable role in promotion of sports in district South.
