DADU: Two suspects and a police constable were wounded in what was described as an encounter at Kolachi Bridge on the Mehar-Larkana section of the Indus Highway on Monday.

The wounded suspects were arrested and their weapons along with bullets were siezed, police said, claiming that they challenged the suspects when they were found looting passengers of passing vehicles.

DSP Ghulam Mohammed Channa said he and the A-Section SHO along with some personnel chased the suspects and engaged them in an encounter at Kolachi Bridge, some three kilometres from Mehar town. They were first ordered to surrender themselves but they chose to fight, the DSP said.

In the ensuing encounter, constable Mohammed Afzal Junejo and the suspects, Mohammed Bukhsh Loond and Aftab Chandio, were wounded, he said.

Two rifles and 200 rounds were seized from them, he added.

According to Dadu SSP Rukhsar Ahmed Khuhawar, 10 cases of heinous crimes had been registered against the suspects at the Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah and Dadu police stations over the past few years.

The wounded suspects and constable were admitted to the Mehar Taluka Hospital for treatment.
