No Pakistani in World Cup XI dominated by Kiwis

MELBOURNE: New Zealand may have been thrashed by Australia in the World Cup final but they dominate the International Cricket Council's team of the tournament released Monday with Brendon McCullum named captain.
The New Zealand skipper is one of five Black Caps in the side that also includes three Australians.
“McCullum was chosen as the captain following his aggressive, innovative and inspirational leadership during the 44-day tournament that was the cornerstone of his team's progression to the final,” the ICC said in a statement.
He scored 328 runs in nine matches with four half-centuries at a strike-rate of 188.50.
The other New Zealanders in the line up are Corey Anderson, Trent Boult, Martin Guptill, and Daniel Vettori.
Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith and Mitchell Starc were selected from the world champion Australian side along with South Africans AB de Villiers and Morne Morkel, with Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara as wicketkeeper-batsman.
Brendan Taylor of Zimbabwe was named 12th man.
The selection panel said batsmen Mahmudullah (Bangladesh) and Shaiman Anwar (United Arab Emirates), fast bowlers Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Shami from India, Pakistan's Wahab Riaz as well as South African spinner Imran Tahir and India's Ravi Ashwin were unlucky to miss selection.
“The panel had an extremely difficult choice of selecting a 12-member squad at the back of an outstanding tournament,” panel chairman and ICC general manager cricket Geoff Allardice said.
They had to take into consideration several eye-catching performances including two double-centuries, 38 centuries, two hat-tricks and 28 four-wicket hauls.
“The panel eventually came up with this side, which, in their view, was the most balanced outfit that is capable of beating any side on any given day,” Allardice added.

I suppose you could term as a 'statistically' correct selection. I understand that picking a world 11 is never easy as someone is going to miss out. Having said that Wahab Riaz is more than just unlucky not to be picked. Anyone with imagination and flair for the real fast bowler, would have picked Riaz just on the back of his spell against Australia. Then who is keeping wickets for this team? McCullum or Sanga? Both did not keep wickets throughout the tournament and havent done so for their national sides for quite some time.

Not even Chris Gayle? He scored one of the double centuries made in the tournament. Also while Vettori will go down as one of the best cricketers but not sure if his performance during the world cup earns him a place. There were better and more effective spinners at display.
Unfortunate that Wahab couldn't make it to the team but then I suppose it makes sense when we consider the kind performances given by other fast bowlers (Starc, Boult and Morkel).

Lara, Tendulkar and other legends of the game has rated Wahab Riaz's spell as the best example of hostile fast bowling for a long time!!!

Pathetic team with old retiring members. Exactly Vettori? Where is Ashwin or Ajmal. Where is Dhoni or Waheb? It's just my heart that say's. Had we had a team composed of best of India and Pak, no team could beat us. India always lacked penetrating fast bowlers like Waheb Riaz. If India had such bowlers ability, Australia would have scored no more than 270 making it easier in Semi-Final. Likewise can say if pak had solid batsman like Rohit or Rahane, Pak would have scored closer to 270's in Quarter final and Pak would have won.

this is statistically speaking, a correct team. Think about it no Johnson and no Steyn. They did not take as many wickets. Similarly do i think Vettori is better than Ashwin, NO but Vettori took more wickets. Wahab was excellent but stats do not back him compared to other bowlers here. Batting for Pakistan is not worth talking about.

Sorry to say that of the New Zealanders, the only one who belongs is McCullum. Guptill made Maxwell look like an Ajmal, Anderson made Starc and Faulkner look like Wasim Akram, Boult can only get wickets if there is swing in the air (similar to Anderson of England) and Vettori - well, he is a great gentleman, but not a super all rounder. The four that should have made the team include Dhawan, Faulkner, Wahab R., and Ashwin. Obviously, the only thing that has been achieved by the naming of the squad is to prove the fact that bias is the second nature of most humans.

Vetori is the most over rated player at the moment , he can never and he nevered run through a side, at best he is run stopper. Every one keep saying how great he is and great feilding, he is only 33 or 36 a young man he is not old he should be doing good feilding. and he did not do anything in the final the Crunch time so i dont know on what bases he is in team, i think same they want a what appers to be a nice guy on the top, Seed Ajmal on one leg is better then denial at any TIME any WHERE

No at all good selection. You have to consider their class and performed events and grounds. Kiwis players mostly played at home grounds which were small too.
And where is Elliot form kiwis who proved himself as better than other kiwis batsman with stellar performances in semis and Final ? . And Maxwell is not deserved to be there.
I would pick Dhoni as captain . and would include Elliot from NZ and Wahab , Misba from Pak . When it comes to bowling pitches, Misba would prove valuable with his immense resistance.
Dhoni , Devilliers, Steve Smith , Sangakkara /Elliot , Misba , Shakib , portfield , Wahab, Starc, Boult , Morkel.

All but a handful have missed the point completely. This was the ICC team picked on performances during the World Cup. It was not about how they would perform on sub-continental pitches or wherever else. Of course, there will always be room for argument on some positions, which makes for reader participation. But to show how wide off the mark some are, one guy nominated Saeed Ajmal, who wasn't even there; another mentioned M. Irfan, who unfortunately didn't even compete in Pakistan's last matches due to a recurring injury. Get with the program guys.
