PESHAWAR: Members of Afghan Students Union, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, on Friday held a demonstration outside the press club here to condemn lynching of a woman in Afghanistan and demanded death sentence to all those involved in the gruesome incident.

The protesters were led by Dr Ibrahim Khan Zazai. The participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans sympathising with the female victim, Farkhunda.

Representatives of various civil society organisations and Pak-Afghan People’s Forum, Aurat Foundation, women wing of the Awami National Party and others also participated in the protest.

Talking to media persons, the protesters said that Farkhunda was a Hafiz-i-Qur’an (learnt Qur’an by heart) and kept advising the fake shrine keepers to refrain from deceiving the innocent and simple people by writing fake taveez (amulets).

They said that the probe launched by the local police proved that the woman was innocent and was not involved in any kind of blasphemy.
