LAKKI MARWAT: The local chapter of Jamaat-i-Islami has threatened to launch a protest campaign against the excessive power outages being carried out in the urban and rural areas of the district.

After a meeting here on Thursday, Lakki Marwat JI chief Sabz Ali Naveed told media persons that the city and its adjacent rural localities had been facing over 20-hour daily loadshedding. He said that business activities were at standstill while the residents had been facing shortage of drinking water due to long power breakdowns.

The JI leader said that tube-wells could not be run owing to the outages and low voltage problems. “Despite paying electricity bills regularly the residents of Lakki city and other localities are facing the brunt of long spells of loadshedding,” he said.

He said that the lawmakers and elders of the district were not playing any role to resolve problems of the residents. He said that the JI activists would go to any extent to press the quarters concerned for reducing duration of power outages.

UPLIFT SCHEMES: The municipal administration will spend over Rs30 million on uplift schemes in Lakki city as all formalities in this regard have been completed.

A municipal official who requested anonymity said that funds had been provided by the provincial government under its plan to bring Lakki city on a par with other developed urban localities of the province. He said that funds would be spent on replacing rusted and broken water supply lines besides construction of new roads. He said that the civic body had already awarded contracts of schemes to the contractors to launch work without any delay. He said that the new roads would augment the beautification of urban locality.
