MULTAN: National Accountability Bureau chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said on Thursday a national consensus on the pattern of terrorism was the need of the hour to uproot corruption which had become a bane of the country.

As the nation is grappling with corruption, NAB has launched relentless efforts to eliminate it.

Speaking to the participants at an inaugural ceremony of NAB’s Multan Region office, he said: “The prevailing situation demands an organised and comprehensive drive against corruption at individual, collective and organisational levels.”

He said NAB’s field of action would be expanded to local government institutions and directed the officials to constitute committees to unearth corruption and properly handle cases. He said a positive and encouraging feedback was received from the public on the establishment of Multan’s NAB, urging people to cooperate with the bureau by providing information about corrupt elements to support the campaign.

He said two new NAB bureaus had been set up in Multan and Sukkur.

NAB Multan Region Director General Tariq Nadeem said the bureau was Pakistan’s premier anti-corruption organisation which had fulfilled national obligation through a holistic approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement.
