PESHAWAR: The leaders of PML-N have decided to make alliance with other political parties in the province for the upcoming local government elections instead of making solo flight, sources say.

However, the party has not shown interest in forging alliance with any particular party. The party has instructed its office-bearers in different districts to submit proposals to the provincial leadership to make the election campaign a success.

Also, Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif will address a workers convention in Peshawar on March 25 to redress the grievances of the party workers and activate them for the local bodies’ elections.

The party has also decided to form authorised committees comprising 20 to 30 members of its all sister organisations at village council level to nominate candidates and set priorities for success in the elections.

These issues were discussed in a meeting of PML-N here on Thursday. Besides PML-N provincial president Pir Sabir Shah, Senator Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, general secretary Rehmat Salam Khattak, senior vice president Eng Amir Muqam, Arbab Khizar Hayat, Senator Salahuddin Tirmizi, MPAs Aurangzeb Nalotha, Sobia Khan, Reshad Khan and MNA Umer Ayub, provincial secretary information Nasir Khan Musazai attended the meeting. The participants of the meeting suggested that the party should avoid solo flight and contact other political parties to form alliance and get maximum seats in all the districts in local bodies’ elections.

The future line of action, they said, should be decided in consultation with office-bearers of the party in different districts. The district presidents and general secretaries were tasked to keep liaison with provincial leadership of the party in this regard.

Pir Sabir Shah said that PML-N candidates would emerge successful in all the districts of the province if the workers properly implemented the party policy. He said that PML-N representatives would spend the funds on public welfare at the grassroots level to bring all the neglected areas at par with the developed ones.

The workers, Mr Shah said, were assets of the party and their grievances would be removed at all costs. He also referred to his recent meeting with party president Nawaz Sharif and said that he had conveyed reservations of the workers to the party chief.

Mr Shah said that prime minister was determined to listen to the workers and agreed to address workers convention on March 25 in Peshawar. He asked the workers to speed up their efforts for strengthening of the party in their respective areas.

Expressing shock over the killing of PML-N youth wing president in Peshawar Sardar Mohmand, the meeting condemned the murder and demanded of the provincial government to arrest all those involved in the incident.
