PESHAWAR: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) on Friday approved 18 projects with an estimated cost of Rs6.6 billion, while ten projects were deferred due to inadequate project designs.

A PDWP meeting was held at the Civil Secretariat, Peshawar, chaired by Additional Chief Secretary, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Hammad Owais Agha. It was also attended by respective administrative secretaries, according to a handout.

The meeting considered 28 projects pertaining to communication & works, local government, finance, environment, sports & tourism, higher education, health, social welfare and agriculture sectors.

Projects approved for health included improvement of DHQ hospital in Nowshera, upgradation of DHQ hospital, Abbottabad, and establishment of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Paramedics Institute in Peshawar. The sports sector projects included rehabilitation of Hayatabad Sports Complex, and construction of a sports stadium in Swabi district.

While completion of Bacha Khan women vocational centres in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera and Karak, and empowerment of persons with disabilities through capacity building and provision of rehabilitative aids were the projects approved for social sector.

The local government portfolio contained construction of a public park in Swabi, improvement of Sheikh Maltoon Town, Mardan, and beautification of Nowshera district.

Three projects for agriculture sector were approved, which included launch of a special programme for OFWM activities in KP, building a water conservation structure and provision of solar pumping systems for productivity enhancement. —Bureau Report
