HYDERABAD: The Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) on Wednesday announced that a ‘wheeljam strike’ would be observed across the province on March 21 to observe the death anniversary of its leaders, Maqsood Khan Qureshi, Salman Wadho and Manzoor Channa.

The charred bodies of Maqsood Qureshi, the brother of JSQM founder chairman Bashir Qureshi, and Salma Wadho were found in a burnt-out car on Bhirya Road on March 21 last year. Manzoor Channa was killed in firing on participants in a JSQM rally a few weeks later.

JSQM chairman Sanan Qureshi told the media on Wednesday that neither FIRs of the two cases were registered nor was a breakthrough made in the investigations.

He said the issue was discussed by the party’s central committee at its meeting earlier in the day which was attended by JSQM senior vice chairman Dr Niaz Kalani, vice chairman Kehar Ansari, secretary general Sagar Hanif Burdi, Ali Raza Khaskheli and others.

The JSQm chief said that Maqsood Qureshi and Salman Wadho were burnt alive and alleged that when a protest rally was taken out in Nawabshah, Pakistan Peoples Party activists and allies fired on its participants resulting in the killing of Manzoor Channa. He appealed to the business community and transporters to join in the strike, adding that his party would stage rallies for the independence of Sindh under title Sindh ghuray thi azadi (Sindh demands independence) on March 21.

“The state has hatched a conspiracy to settle Punjabi, Pathan and other immigrants in Sindh in order to convert Sindhis into a minority within their province,” he said.

MIRPURKHAS: Activists and supporters of the Jeay Sindh Students Federation (JSSF) took out a rally from State Life Building to the local press club to observe ‘Students struggle day’.

Led by JSSF district president Mohammed Khan Mangrio, the participants carrying banners and placards assembled outside the local press club.

Speaking to them, Mr Mangrio said that it was on March 4, 1967 that students had launched a movement against ‘One Unit’ that proved their strength in the following years.

He demanded lifting of a ban on students union in Sindh to enable this strong segment of society to play its due role in the progress of the country.
