MOIN Khan’s casino controversy has added insult to injury. It came at a time when our team is already performing poorly. It is continuously facing criticism and many fans have lost hope in them. But Pakistan cricket team’s chief selector does not realise that his irresponsible attitude can bring more damage to the team. It already has given an opportunity to our rivals to freshen up the label of ‘match-fixers’ and ‘gamblers’ given to us in 2009 because of the infamous trio.

Although PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan has asked Moin to return and give an explanation, he himself should explain why Moin was sent with the team in the first place. Being a chief selector his work was done when the 30-man squad was announced for the mega event.

Nevertheless, Moin was sent at the expense of the PCB and now he will be coming back on the expense of the board, which is our tax money.

Also, when Moin was asked to give the reason for his visit to the casino, he lied, saying that he was there to check on the players. But later he changed his explanation, saying that he was there just for dinner.

However, he did not realise that he was pictured with gambling chips that accounted for $10,000 to $15,000.

The point here is that Moin is not only irresponsible but he also has no moral values as far as this incident is concerned. This debacle brings Roman poet Juvenal’s question to mind: ‘Quis custodiet ipsos custodies?’ (‘Who will guard the guards?’).

Clearly, something has changed since for this step to have been taken and there are shifts in the balance of power within.
