Thousands come out to mourn slain Muslim students

Thousands of people gathered in Chapel Hill to mourn three Muslim students killed by an anti-religion gunman who shot them in the head, rocking the tight-knit university town.
Friends and family poured onto the University of North Carolina campus to remember Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, his new wife Yusor Mohammad, 21 and her 19-year-old sister Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha.
The three were allegedly killed by neighbour Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, whose Facebook page espoused his anti-religious views.

Sad... Western media will call Craig Stephen Hicks, as a sick person not a terrorist because he is not muslim. Years age western media called Timothy McVeigh, who was responsible a sick for Oklahoma bombing a sick person not a terrorist.

This is democracy and humanity at its best. Now show in the crowd how many were of which faith? If this kind of mainstream people come out in support of hapless minorities in our own pure land, maybe there will be a difference? But then maybe it is too late to reclaim humanism? There is always a never ending justification about why the adherents of this or other faith or sect actually deserved their fate. The photos in the crowd are similar to the huge majority of Indians in Delhi protesting Jessica Lal's murder or Nirbhaya's rape irrespective of caste or religion

@N USA, YOU tell me the definition of terrorist. Why western media never called Craig Stephen a terrorist, when US attacked Iraq on FAKE chemical weapons report and killed thousands innocent civilians, did the same media ever labeled US a terrorist state. Same western media called unarmed Palestinians terrorist when they defend themselves with stones against Israeli's tanks, jets and gunship helicopters.

And Obama was recently teaching Indian for religious tolerances, he should have thought that person sitting next to him at that time was none other than Dalai Lama who was given protection by India from Chinese persecution in 1959 and since that day all Tibetans are living peacefully in India

These kids (Deah, Yosur, and Razan) are role models for our kids in USA. At the age of 23, 22, and 19 respectively these kids were not only good in their academic achievements but at the same time they did lot of community service as fellow citizens in communities where their expertise was needed irrespective of race and religion. Their parents have done a great job in raising them. Hate crime has taken these souls away from us but their lives that was filled with true Islamic values, leaves a legacy for others to follow. RIP....!!!

@anwarzshah The killer was not a Christian. It is hard for Muslims perhaps to accept this, but people from other religions often renounce the religion they were born in (assuming this guy's parent were christians in the first place).

sad indeed.. also want to add, hope this same support was shown in adopted countries for the other killings that occurred....
double standards...we move away from our home country and instead of integrating, we become more rigid and try to mimic home ideals in our adopted country...
double standards...when outsiders(read- other community members) come to our countries, they have to follow our rules/ clothing etc, but we go there and take all our rights for granted...

@Nadeem He wasn't sick, he was evil, but that still does not make this "terrorism". Terrorism is generally directed at random targets for no particular reason etc. What Hicks did was murder and is to be condemned, but he had specific targets and a specific motive - equally wrong, but nevertheless different.

@Nadeem Timothy McVeigh WAS called a terrorist until identity was not known. Thereafter, even CNN discussed his " human side" saying that he was not against the people killed, he was just against the government policies. One of the side effects of information age is that media can make or break a person.
