RAWALPINDI: Police have registered cases against 38 hotel and house owners for not passing on to the police the required particulars of their guests and tenants.

According to a police spokesman, the cases were registered under the Punjab Information of Temporary Residence Ordinance 2015.

The spokesman said on the special directives of the city police officer (CPO), action was being taken against hotel owners for not keeping the records of their guests.

Under the Punjab Tenants Ordinance 2015, details of new tenants should be provided to the police within 24 hours of giving possession of the property, he added.

It may be noted that several hotels, guesthouses and property dealers are unwilling to pass on to the police the required particulars about their tenants which is hindering the process of data collection under the National Action Plan.

The real estate agents and hotel managers, however, said proper data collection desks were yet to be set up in the police stations.

They also said the lack of coordination between the police and the managements of the guesthouses was hindering the implementation of the National Action Plan.

According to the ordinance, the administration of hotels and guesthouses are bound to provide information about the renters to the local police within three hours.

Similarly, it has been made compulsory for the real estate agents to submit the information about the tenants to the police within 48 hours after the house is rented out.
