LAHORE: Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Nizamuddin says universities should be the hub of research rather than mere teaching centres.

He was speaking to the faculty of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) at a meeting organised by the varsity’s Directorate of Faculty Development and Internationalisation on Friday.

Dr Nizamuddin stressed improvement in performance of public colleges in Punjab as they were the backbone of higher education.

He expressed the resolve that the commission would ensure success of four-year degree programmes at public colleges.

LCWU VC Dr Sabiha Mansoor said the university’s commitment to women empowerment could be seen through its Vision 2020.

She said the objectives of Vision 2020 include focus on gender studies, skill development and career counseling for women empowerment through employment and entrepreneurship, and the Benazir Bhutto Chair for peace, development, and reconciliation through education.
