GB: recruitment

Published January 31, 2015

CORRUPTION in any form ruins the very roots of any institution. But corruption in the education sector destroys nations and spoils future generations.

For many years Gilgit-Baltistan has been witnessing rampant corruption in the education sector owing to political affiliations, sectarian tendencies, clan loyalty and bribery.

Last year, NAB unearthed hundreds of ineligible teachers appointed without scrutiny of their educational documents. It is sad that non-matriculate teachers have been appointed to take classes of ninth and matriculation.

After schools, now colleges are being targeted by the corrupt political leadership and avaricious officers.

In 2012, the Gilgit-Baltistan government appointed many lecturers on a contract basis for two years taking affidavits regarding the termination of contracts after the completion of the two-year period.

Since Gilgit-Baltistan has not established its own public service commission, it has no legitimate right to induct lecturers on a permanent basis.

Thus, to fulfil these posts, the FPSC advertised posts in April last year and tests were to be held in August. But, sadly, temporary lecturers who had been appointed on various ground have gone to court.

The chairman of the FPSC is omnipotent in this matter and he has constitutional power to conduct tests without a further delay to appoint candidates on merit.

The caretaker chief minister and chief secretary are requested to look into this matter.
