QUETTA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Balochistan, has arrested a general manager of the Balochistan Development Authority (BDA), Bismillah Khan Kakar, for allegedly accepting million of rupees in kickbacks and commission in award of contracts for different projects.

A NAB official said on Wednesday that Mr Kakar was under investigation for many months after complaints received accused him of being involved in embezzlement of public funds and making assets worth millions of rupees.

NAB made the arrest after collecting enough evidence and proof against Mr Kakar, senior officials of the bureau said, adding that alleged plunder of public funds by him had badly affected the development plans of the BDA.

Mr Kakar was inducted into the BDA as a sub-engineer in grade-11 in 2003. However, sources said, by using unfair means and with connivance of some officers he reached the position of general manger (Tendering) in grade 19.

He made properties, including plazas, bungalows, shops and other buildings, worth millions of rupees and got them registered in the name of his brothers, friends and relatives.

“Gold, prize bonds and luxury vehicles worth millions of rupees were also found in his possession,” NAB officials said.
