KARACHI: A sessions court asked the superintendent of Adiala Jail on Wednesday to produce before it a media coordinator of a former prime minister in a fraud case.

Mian Khurram Rasool, the then media coordinator of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, was booked in 2012 for allegedly making a business deal with complainant Abdul Hameed for sending a shipment but he failed to do so despite having received Rs85 million.

Additional district and sessions judge (south) Abdul Qudoos Memon issued an order to the superintendent of Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi with the direction that the suspect be produced on March 3.

The court said the case had been stalled since 2012 for want of custody and it was informed that the suspect was in Adiala Jail in connection with some other cases.

A case was registered under Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant or by banker merchant or agent), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471(using as genuine a forged document), 489-F (dishonestly issuing a cheque for repayment of loan etc.) and 109 (abetment) of the Pakistan Penal Code at the FIA corporate crime circle in Karachi.

Six-year sentence

A court sentenced on Wednesday an accused to six years imprisonment in an illicit weapon case.

Aqib was found guilty of carrying an unlicensed pistol in 2013 in the jurisdiction of the Model Colony police station.

Senior civil judge (east) Shahid Memon also imposed a fine of Rs20,000 on the convict, and in case of non-payment he would have to undergo an additional three months in prison.
