RAWALPINDI: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) denied Pakistan Navy a spot in the semi-finals of the Chief of Army Staff Challenge Hockey Cup when they outclassed them 4-0 on Wednesday.

Navy needed a victory in order to pip Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to a last-four berth but they were no match for NBP here at the Army Hockey Stadium.

NBP’s victory saw them take SSGC through to Friday’s semis where the two teams are joined by Pakistan Army and Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

Syed Kashif struck twice for NBP, being assisted by Ali Shan and Sitain Raza who scored a goal apiece.

In an inconsequential match between PIA and Army, the airliners warmed up for the semi-finals with a 4-2 victory.

Zubair Mehmood, Rana Sohail, Nohaiz and Shafqat Rasool scored for tournament favourites PIA while Abdul Jabbar repiled twice for Army. Army’s junior side, meanwhile, remained winless at the tournament after they lost 2-0 to Wapda in the third game on Wednesday with the goals coming from Khalid Bhatti and Mohammad Usman.
