KARAK: Adviser to chief minister on prisons Malik Qasim Khan Khattak on Tuesday inaugurated a Rs30 million drinking water supply scheme for different areas of Takht-i-Nusrati tehsil.
Addressing a ceremony on the occasion, he said that the upper and lower parts of Takht-i-Nusrati had been facing water shortage since long, forcing women to fetch water from distant areas. He added that the water supply scheme from Lawagher dam would be completed within the shortest possible time to benefit the people. Elders on the occasion expressed satisfaction over the launching of the mega project, which had been their longstanding demand.
Mr Khattak resolved to realise his election promise of providing drinking water facility to each house of his constituency. He said that work on another water supply scheme from Lawagher dam on gravity line was also underway at a cost of Rs380 million, which would benefit people of Sirajkhel, Mianki, Jehangeri and Chokara union councils.
The CM’s adviser said that work on 16km Koh-i-Maidan road, costing Rs200 million, had been initiated which would link the people of far away areas with the district headquarters.
Mr Khattak said that the road would also help people of Karak to easily access minerals rich Kurd Sharif, Showanki and Koh-i-Maidan areas.
CLASSES AT SCHOOL SOUGHT: The people of Banda Daud Shah have demanded of the education department to immediately start classes at the girls high school, whose building has already been completed. The people led by former Teri union council nazim Haji Raza Abbas, former headmaster Naseer Khan and Iqbal Khan marched in a vehicular procession to the district education office on Tuesday and demanded to make the school functional without delay.
They said that the girls had either to quit education or go to other cities to continue receiving education due to absence of a high school in the area.
