New pharma scam

Published January 27, 2015

THE recent spurious drug case in Punjab shows the heath system’s deplorable condition in the country. Similarly, there is one drug inspector for 600 medical stores, 50 factories and 100 distribution stores in Rawalpindi region. Obviously the department is not in a position to conduct satisfactory monitoring. Many more examples can be cited.

The Punjab chief minister should appoint more pharmacists in hospitals and set up drug-testing laboratories in every district with qualified pharmacists to ensure the distribution of safe, cheap and effective medicines to the public.
