QUETTA: At least five people were killed and five others injured in a landmine explosion in Balochistan’s Naseerabad district on Monday.

Police sources told Dawn that a vehicle carrying residents hit a land mine in the Chahtar area of the district. The blast was heard far and wide causing panic in the area. Several vehicles parked nearby were also destroyed.

Two people were killed on the spot, while three others succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital, police said adding that among the five dead, two belonged to the Hindu community.

The injured were immediately taken to civil hospital in Dera Murad Jamali for medical treatment. Doctors and para-medics were called in on an emergency basis to treat the injured. Police and other law enforcers reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
