JHANG: Registration of seminaries in the district could not be started due to the vacant post of the district officer (Enterprises and Investment Promotion) who is responsible for maintaining data of the seminaries.

Taking notice of the vacant post, the chief secretary directed the district coordination officer (DCO) to submit a report on the matter.

Sources said that for the implementation of the prime minister’s action plan to root out terrorists, the Punjab government had decided immediate registration of the seminaries across the province. But the plan could not be implemented in the district because post of the district officer concerned was vacant and now the additional charge of post of had been given to the system network administrator (SNA), a contractual official.

The designated duty of the SNA was to complete the computer networking among the offices of districts of Jhang and Bhakkar, remaining present for three days every week in Jhang and four days in Bhakkar.

The sources said that in the light of the directions of the prime minister about enforcement of action plan, the Punjab home department had decided immediate registration of all seminaries across the province.

The district officer (Coordination), commenting on the issue, said that not only was the post of DO (E&IP) vacant but EDO (Finance & Planning), EDO (Works and Services), DO (Roads), Council Officer and some other posts were also vacant in Jhang. However, the posting on DO (E&IP) was expected to be done soon after the report sought by the chief secretary.

TMA: District Coordination Office (DCO) Babar Bashir has directed Tehsil Municipal Officer Ahmad Khan and TMA Chief Officer Mukhtar Shah to improve their performance, saying that cleanliness of roads, markets, streets and localities should be carried out without any laxity.

He issued the directions while chairing a meeting held to review the performance of tehsil municipal administration (TMA).

The DCO sought reframing the sanitary workers’ duty plan to get better results and directed the TMO to take steps for removal of encroachments from the roads for smooth flow of traffic.

He warned the officials of action if garbage and sewage were found on city roads during his visit.
