THE recent gas and gasoline shortage has brought major cities to a standstill. We will receive a ship or two of gasoline from Saudi Arabia and then forget all about it. How about using biogas in place of compressed natural gas and gasoline? Although Pakistan is the sixth biggest cattle producer, we have failed to utilise its byproducts.
Mian Ishaque of Bastee Shahbazpur, Sadiqabad, has been doing that for the last one year, using manure of his cattle to drive his Toyota on biogas. Rana Matloob of Chowk Bahadarpur, Rahim Yar Khan, is running the biggest biogas plant in Pakistan, wholly designed and fabricated in-house without any cattle of his own.
Let us use the skills and knowledge of these two people and get rid of gasoline imports.
Both come from humble backgrounds and, more importantly, are willing to share their experiences.
