LAKKI MARWAT:  The deficient and unsatisfactory security arrangements in over 200 government schools have worried the district police prompting them to approach officials of the local education department for implementation of the security advisory issued by the government.

A police official told Dawn on Friday that security guidelines were circulated among all the heads of private and government educational institutions with direction to follow these in letter and spirit. He said that the security advisory contained special instructions for the heads of institutions to ensure safety of students, teachers and other employees.

“On the directives of the district police officer, Ismail Kharak, SDPOs and SHOs inspected a number of schools after Jan 12 to check security arrangements there,” said the official, adding that during visits police officials learnt that the heads didn’t adopt adequate security measures at their respective institutions.

The police official said that the management of 214 state run boys and girls primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools, two private educational institutions and two schools run by Workers Welfare Board had deficient and unsatisfactory security arrangements. The official revealed that watchmen of many schools were found absent. He said that the district police chief had asked the district education officers (male & female) to direct heads of schools with unsatisfactory security arrangements to improve the situation at their institutions. — Correspondent
