Pakistan, Turkey to boost parliamentary relations

ISLAMABAD: Speaker of National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Cemil Cecik agreed on Thursday to en­hance interaction betw­een parliamentarians of the two countries and share their legislation experiences.

The agreement was reached during a meeting that took place on the sidelines of the 10th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member states (PUIC) in Istanbul, said a message received here.

Mr Cecik appreciated Pakis­tani parliamentary delegation’s active participation in the PUIC proceedings.

Referring to deep-rooted, historical ties between Turkey and Pakistan, he said it had provided a firm base for long-lasting strategic partnership between the two countries.

He noted with satisfaction that the two states were maintaining close partnership at the highest level.

He extended an invitation to his Pakistani counterpart for a bilateral visit to Turkey.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq referred to the formation of Pak-Turkish friendship group in the National Assembly, which he said was one of the largest in the Pakistani parliament.

While referring to the forthcoming visit to Pakistan by the Turkish prime minister, he suggested to include parliamentarians of the Pakistan-Turkey Friendship Group in the Turkish Parliament in the entourage as well.

The Speaker extended an invitation to the Turkish Speaker to visit Pakistan.
