Road accident claims six lives in Karak

PESHAWAR: At least six persons were killed and seven others injured as a passenger van skidded off the road and fell into a ravine near Banda Daud Shah tehsil of Karak disrict on Thursday.

Official and police sources say that a passenger coach travelling from Peshawar to Bannu when it met with the accident.

Station House Officer of Banda Daud Shah police station Iqbal Khan told Dawn that the brakes of the passenger van failed near Hazara Kandow and skidded into a deep ravine.

Rescue and emergency teams reached the spot and shifted the victims to a local hospital where the wounded were receiving treatment.

Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
