QUETTA: Two miners died on Tuesday after inhaling poisonous gas in a chromite mine in the Pishin district of Balochistan, levies said.

Muhammad Ismail, a levies official said, "accumulation of methane gas caused the death of two miners".

He said three other miners had fallen unconscious as a result of accumulation of methane gas inside the mine.

The incident happened in Khanozai area of Pishin district. The unconscious miners were shifted to Quetta for medical treatment.

Levies reached the spot and started investigation into the incident.

Initial investigation revealed that the workers were mining inside the mine without appropriate safety conditions, Ismail said.

Such incidents remain common in coal mines and chromite mines across Balochistan due to lack of proper safety arrangements.
