RAWALPINDI: A convict in US Consulate Karachi terror attack case was hanged in the Adiala jail on Tuesday at 6:30am.

According to security sources, the convict had links with Al-Qaeda.

In the consulate attack, two policemen were gunned down while five other people were injured.

Zulfiqar Ali, a resident of Naval Colony Hub Road Karachi, was booked by the Frayer Road Police under section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act in February 2003 and later was awarded a death sentence.

He was shifted to Adiala jail on November 3, 2014.

On Monday, the family of Zulfiqar, including his mother Ms Majeeda Bagum, two brothers Shahid Ali and Iftikhar Ali, and brother-in-law Waheed Ehsan had held their last meeting with him at the jail.

After the execution the jail doctor confirmed the death of the convict.

Later his body was handed over to his brother Iftikhar Ali who took it to his native town Lakar Mandi for burial.

It was the second execution in the Adiala jail after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted moratorium on execution.

Last Friday, Pakistan Air Force chief technician, Khalid Mehmood, involved in terrorist attack on former Army Chief retired General Pervez Musharraf, was hanged in the Adiala jail.

He was convicted by the Field General Court Martial on October 3, 2005 under the Army Act Seven other convicted prisoners facing death sentence were languishing in the Adiala jail.
