Waqas bowls Parco to convincing win in opener

KARACHI: Talented off-spinner Waqas took four wickets in a mesmerising spell to bowl defending champions Parco to an emphatic seven-wicket victory over Total in the opening match of the sixth Parco cricket tournament at the DHA Moin Khan Academy here on Sunday.

Waqas took four wickets for just fifteen runs in his four overs while Shahid Ali claimed two wickets also for the same cost in three overs as Total were bundled out for a paltry 89 in the 20th over after making first use of the wicket. Waqas Naeem top scored with 23.

Parco, in reply, raced to victory for the loss of just three wickets in 13.3 overs. Khalil Bugti scored an unbeaten 39 while Ibrahim Akhtar struck 18.

Waqas was declared Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling show.

Earlier, Parco Managing Director Tariq Rizavi inaugurated the 12-team competition in presence of Pakistan star batsman Younis Khan, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif and prominet players including Tauseef Ahmed, Sohail Tanveer and Yasir Shah who also attended the opening ceremony.

Test umpire Riazuddin and first-class umpire Rasheed supervised the match.—Agencies
