Website review: Dance Mat Typing

Published December 27, 2014

KIDS are learning and exploring new things through books and of course the internet. The fast developing world and the growing educational needs, sometimes require students to submit their assignments online and if not schools, then it is the students who want to stand out from the crowd by creating fliers, presentations and animations using various computer programmes in an amazing way. But all that is tedious if kids can’t type reasonably fast and accurately. Thus keyboard skills are necessary and building this skill at an early age really works wonder for the rest of your life.

So for a systematic approach to learning, Dance Mat Typing by BBC is the answer! The programme is an excellent first step. The excitement lasts for three-four months before you must move to a new programme there’s a list that you can try out — just go to your grade level and then scroll down to ‘keyboarding’. Notice your development and how you get to improve your speed at the end of each grade level.

The site offers students a series of 12 activities that work every section of the keyboard. Each activity begins with a warm-up, then progresses through left and right hand exercises. In the process, students also receive coaching. The emphasis is on hand position and accuracy, not speed. The site uses Flash and if you don’t have one click for the ‘Non-Flash’ version.

So kids with this programme, keyboarding class will never be quite the same!
