LAHORE: The government has renamed a portion of Lawrence Road to honour the late Cecil Chaudhry, a war veteran of the Pakistan Air Force.
The road portion in front of St Anthony School is now called “Cecil Chaudhry Road.“ A ceremony was held at the school on Saturday. Air Vice Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan was the chief guest on the occasion.
He said Cecil Chaudhry was among the distinguished breed of air warriors to whom we all are indebted.
He was a legendary pilot and a patriot, who displayed unflinching courage, exemplary devotion and sheer professionalism throughout his service in the PAF.
“The services rendered by him significantly contributed towards achieving air superiority by the PAF during the India-Pak war of 1965,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by friends and family members of the war hero, important personalities of the Christian community and civil and military dignitaries.
Group Captain Cecil Chaudhry was an acclaimed hero and awarded Sitara-i-Jurat. He was also an eminent educationist and a brave human rights activist. For his services in the field of education and human rights, he was awarded Pride of Performance by the government of Pakistan.
Special squad: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has formed a Special Response Squad (SRS) which will be deployed on need basis on leading roads to improve the quality and impact of routine cleaning activities there.
Comprising 35 workers, the squad would work in the city in accordance with a specialized duty roster, said a spokesperson on Saturday.
After successful execution of the plan, the squad might be deployed on citizens’ requests in areas other than scheduled ones.
LWMC Managing Director Khalid Majeed and the senior manager operations would directly supervise and monitor operations of the squad that would have vehicles at their disposal, he said.
