One killed, four injured in Peshawar blasts

PESHAWAR/TANK: A man was killed and several people suffered injuries in two bomb blasts, which took place in different areas of the provincial capital on Friday evening.

The first blast occurred outside the house of a private bank’s manager at Zaryab Colony in Faqirabad area.The blast left three passerby injured and the house partially damaged.

An official of the local police station said unidentified terrorists had planted an improvised explosive device outside the house of Mohammad Ali, the manager of a private bank in Hayatabad.

He said the bank manager’s father was a former employee of the State Bank of Pakistan.

The official said the injured, including Imtiaz, Ashfaq and Masoodur Rahim, were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable.He said the blast caused partial damages to the banker’s house.The official said explosives weighing one kilogramme was used in the blast.

The bank manager told the police that he had no enmity and therefore, he had no idea about those behind the terrorist act.

The police official said investigators were examining the possibility of the involvement of extortionists in the blast.He said the police had registered a case of the blast and that efforts to arrest culprits were underway.

As for the second blast, it took place in Hayatabad, claiming a life and leaving one dead. The blast partially damaged a car.The blast was so huge that it threw the car from the road onto the nearby green belt.

Peshawar SSP (operations) Najeebur Rehman said terrorists had planted an improvised explosive device by the main road and that it was detonated by remote control.He said the blast’s possible target was security forces, which usually used the road.

The SSP said the injured were shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex, where doctors declared one of them dead.

A police official said the police had no details about the people behind blast at the moment and that investigators were collecting evidence about the blast.

He said the police had yet to register a case of the blast.

BID ON LIFE FAILS: An attempt on the life of Tank peace committee chief Gul Salam Bittini failed on Friday.However, a peace volunteer suffered injuries in the roadside blast.

Gul Salam was on the way from Shah Zamani village to Tank when his motorcade was targeted by a bomb near Faqira on Tank-Wana Road.The bomb planted on a bicycle was blasted by remote control.

The blast damaged two vehicles of the motorcade.The injured volunteer was shifted to a nearby hospital.

Deputy commissioner of Tank Ahmad Khan Wazir, DPO Kifayatullah Wazir and other officials of the administration and police reached the blast site.

The personnel of the law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the area after the blast and closed Tank-Wana Road for traffic for around an hour.

The police registered a case against unidentified terrorists and began investigation.

However, no arrests were made by the night.
