LAHORE: Young trainer Haji Abid Mahmood enjoyed double success when his bay filly Colour Me Crazy and chestnut colt Magic One both cantered to victories in the two feature events during the 12th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

Haji Abid first sent out Colour Me Crazy owned by stud owner Shahid Hussain to win the Naunehal Cup, a term race for two-year-old colts and fillies, in the fifth race of the day.

Ridden by jockey A. Raza, the filly came home seven lengths clear of bay colt Fast Winner with chestnut colts Another Chance and Spartan completing the frame.

The winner clocked one minute 1 1/5 seconds over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres, relatively a faster time for the two-year-olds in this distance.

Abid achieved a rare distinction a race later when his trained colt Magic One surprised the race-goers with a stunning victory in the A. Hameed Memorial Cup run over 1,200 metres.

Magic One, who was piloted by jockey M. Zulfiqar, comfortably upstaged the Shahid Rehman-trained bay colt Mohtaram by about four lengths.

Mohtaram was very fractious at the starting gate that delayed the race taking more than the normal time.

Bay colt Sher Garh and chestnut Khan Prince completed the frame.

Yet another impressive victory on Sunday afternoon was registered by bay colt Prince Zain in the fourth race.

Owned by Mian Mohammad Ashraf the colt opened a 30 to 100 favourite but its odds eased up to 80 to 100 when a couple of other horses were backed but Prince Zain easily beat Sheikh Umar Zaheer’s filly Nikita by three lengths in a thrilling encounter.

Jockey A. Raza and trainer Shahzad Ali led a brace of winners each. Raza rode Prince Zain in the fourth race and followed it with a brilliant victory on Colour Me Crazy in the following event. Shahzad sent out Red Bullet and Prince Zain in the third and fourth race, respectively.
