ABBOTTABAD: The Norwegian government will establish a school of environmental sciences at the Comsats Institute of Information & Technology here.

This was stated by Lars Nordrum, deputy head of mission of Norwegian Embassy in Islamabad, while talking to mediapersons at Comsats Institute after attending a briefing.

He said that the Norwegian government through its institutional collaboration programme was expanding its area of activities in the fields of applied research, climate change and sanitation research in the institute.

Mr Nordrum along with Tom Jorgen Martinussen, the first secretary at the Norwegian embassy, visited the Comsats Institute on Friday. The purpose of the visit was to know progress and impact of the ongoing research and education collaboration between CIIT and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU).

The director of the CIIT Abbottabad Professor Khan Gull Jadoon and Dr Bahadar Nawab Khattak brief the delegation on the collaboration of the two institutions.

Lars Nordrum said that since 2007, Norwegian universities were engaged in different programmes with CIIT which included students and staff exchange, stipends for MS and PhD students, training in education and research and strengthening library and laboratories at the institute.

The Norwegian delegation showed great interest and satisfaction in the progress made so far by the CIIT and wished to continue their support to university to university collaboration.

Mr Nordrum said that currently hundreds of Pakistani nationals were involved in research and other educational activities at his country’s varsity which would be further increased.

MANAGEMENT COUNCIL REVIVED: After approval of the new Health Reforms Act by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the management council of the Ayub Medical Complex has been revived, which was earlier stopped from working following formation of the board of governors of the AMC five months back.

Confusion was created over the management of the affairs of the Ayub Medical College and Ayub Medical Complex due to enforcement of two parallel laws which had badly affected the performance of the AMC since May 2014.
