KARACHI: One of the three gangsters booked in the Jhatpat market carnage case was killed in an encounter in the Napier area of Lyari on Friday, police said.

The police had been looking for the suspect, identified as Nadeem alias Japanwala, since March 2014 following the grenade attack on the bazaar that had left at least 16 people dead and a dozen others wounded.

The Rangers and police raided the hideout of some suspects near Old Haji Camp in the Napier area and came under attack. In an ensuing encounter, one of the suspects was killed while others fled, the police said.

He was identified as the one wanted by the police in the Jhatpat market carnage.

In Kharadar a suspect, Mehboob, aka Sindhi, was shot dead in an encounter on Friday, the police said. He was allegedly involved in a Mithadar market grenade attack. Another suspected gangster was shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in Mehmoodabad’s Chanesar Goth. A special CID police team raided a hideout and killed Sardar Saqib, said to be a member of the Ashok gang, the police added.
