NEW DELHI: Many more Waafs [personnel from Women’s Auxiliary Air Force] are to be drafted to the Far East. Large numbers of girls in service have already volunteered to go; but there are still vacancies for clerks who are so badly needed on airfields in India and Ceylon that some R.A.F. officers have to type their own memoranda. Meanwhile, the first big contingent of “S.E.A.C. [South East Asia Command] Waafs” — there are some 500 of them with nine Administrative Officers — will soon arrive in India. They are on the high seas now. Their leader, Group Officer I.M. Campbell, before the war a Clyde yachtswoman, who has recently been in London, has returned to India by air and is waiting to welcome them.

[Meanwhile, in Chicago,] United States, Britain and Canada today [Nov 20] agreed on a pattern for future civil aviation based on open competition “full planes” for international commercial aviation. It is understood that if the plan is acceptable to the other 51 countries here, world air routes will be opened as soon as military authorities approve. Full planes policy means that every nation engaged in the international air commerce may operate planes as frequently as traffic requires. (Dawn, Delhi)
