CHARSADDA: A government girls’ school was blown up in the jurisdiction of Saro Kallay police station in the wee hours of Friday.

Police and local residents said that unknown miscreants had planted an improvised explosive device (IED) to the building of government middle school for girls in Kodi locality. They said that the explosive device went off with a bang, flattening two rooms and boundary wall of the school. The blast was so powerful that it was heard far and wide in the area, creating panic and fear among the local people who ran out of their houses in the night.

Soon after the incident, the personnel of law enforcement agencies reached the spot and started search operation after cordoning off the area. However, no arrest was reported till filing of this report.

Saro Kallya SHO Wilayat Khan said that 10kg explosives were used in the bomb. He said an FRI had been registered against unknown miscreants and that raids were being conducted on houses of suspected persons in different areas to arrest the perpetrators.
