Tribal leader killed in Balochistan

QUETTA: Armed militants killed a tribal leader in Balochistan's Noshki district on Monday.

Levies sources said militants on a motorcycle opened fire at Sardarzada Wali Khan Mengal and killed him on the spot.

The incident happened on the Jinnah Road area of Noshki, Balochistan's district bordering with Afghanistan. Levies sources added that the assailants sped away on their motorcycle after the strike.

Police, Levies and personnel of other law enforcement agencies reached the spot as investigation into the incident went underway.

Shopkeepers pulled down their shutters soon after the firing incident which caused panic in the city. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the killing.

The deceased had high influence in the district of Noshki. He belonged to one of the largest tribes in Balochistan — the Mengals.

Low scale bomb explosions and incidents of targeted killings have also been previously reported from Noshki.
