‘National shame’

Published October 30, 2014

THIS refers to your editorial ‘National shame’ (Oct 21). Robberies are a daily feature not only in Karachi but in all our big cities.

But this time the victim is none other than one of the greatest philanthropists of our country — a man of international repute and fame, Abdul Sattar Edhi, who should be awarded a Nobel Prize for his services to humanity. Other than taking so-called notice of such occurrences by the prime minister, chief ministers and the ministers, nothing happens.

Tracking criminals of such robberies is no rocket science but requires genuine will and seriousness which simply is not found in our police and administration because in some cases even the police were found to be a beneficiary.

WHAT a misfortune that a man like Abdul Sattar Edhi has been robbed. Is it a really liberated democratic Pakistan where we are increasingly witnessing the failure of all institutions?

It is beyond any shadow of doubt that Mr Edhi is an example of devotion and inspiration. He has spent his entire life in the service of mankind, without any personal benefit or gains.

May God keep Mr Edhi safe, because he is a mirror to the blind.
