LAHORE: Women demonstrated on Saturday near the Raiwind Road residence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in protest against the Defence-C station house officer for allegedly torturing and thrashing some of them.

The protesting women along with their children blocked Raiwind Road for some hours, causing a great deal of inconvenience to motorists.

The protesters told reporters Defence-C SHO Husain Farooq raided the area, arrested Rasheed and subjected him to severe torture in streets in the presence of scores of people.

They alleged the police also injured some women when they tried to rescue Rasheed and then nominated them in an FIR on the charge of drug peddling.

Witnesses said DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf was able to disperse women protesters who wanted to reach the residence of the prime minister. He assured the protesters that justice would be provided to them. The DIG has summoned the SHO on Sunday (today).
