BAHAWALPUR: Some 70 fellows of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) have opposed a Sindh government move to establish a parallel college for the province.

The opposition to the move came at an emergency meeting of these CPSP fellows held at the Quaid-i-Azam Medical College (QAMC) here on Thursday.

The meeting presided over by CPSP Bahawalpur region director Dr Jamil Ahmed and addressed by a number of other fellows expressed concern over the Sindh government’s move, which, they said, could prove disastrous for the five-decade old internationally reputed institution.

Through a resolution, the meeting termed the move a conspiracy to destroy and degrade the post-graduate fellowship programme in Pakistan being offered by the CPSP.

It urged the CPSP Council to take cognizance of the ‘intrigue’ and convene an emergency meeting to foil the bid by certain ‘unscrupulous’ elements in the Sindh government.

The meeting nominated Prof Dr Javed Iqbal, professor of surgery and Prof Dr Ijlal Haider Rizvi, professor of forensic medicines, as focal persons to take up the matter.
