TIMERGARA: Qaumi Watan Party deputy chief and former provincial minister Bakht Baidar Khan on Monday asked people of Adenzai to assist the irrigation department in cleaning and repair of Gora Gat-Chakdara canal to improve irrigation system in the area.

Addressing a public meeting at Darbar Chakdara, he also announced that work on construction of new building of government girls’ high school, Chakdara would start soon as he had got approved funds for the project.

He said that Rs4 million would be spent on cleaning and repair of the canal.

Mr Khan asked prayer leaders and elders to use loudspeakers to motivate people for cleaning the canal.

He accused the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister of sacking him from the cabinet on the directives of PTI chief Imran Khan as he recruited poor people in government departments.

The QWP leader said the PTI was unable to prove its allegations of corruption against him.

He said that people of his constituency had been pushed towards poverty as it had been neglected in development projects since 1994.

Chief engineer irrigation Mohammad Ishaq, SDO Fazal Khuda, assistant commissioner, Adenzai Khalid Pervez Wariach, QWP workers and local elders were in attendance.

JUI-F ELECTION: Dr Mohammad Ilyas was elected president and Akhunzada Rahatullah general secretary of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, Khall chapter, on Monday.

The announcement was made during an election meeting chaired by district emir Maulana Zahid Khan. A total of 62 out of 65 registered members of the party took part in the election.

DISTRICT SPORTS: The district sports’ committee general secretary and president of senior staff association, principal Mohammad Humayun, on Sunday said that arrangements had been finalised for organising the district sports tournament among government high and higher secondary schools.

In a statement, he said that games like cricket, valley-ball, football, basketball, badminton, tug-of-war and declamation contest would be held during the tournament. He said that zonal sports’ competitions would start from Oct 22, while declamation contests from Nov 6.

Mr Humayun said that games’ committees comprising principals, headmasters, senior teachers and officials umpires and referees had been assigned their respective tasks in that regard.

AMBULANCE SERVICE: The Al-Khidmat Foundation on Sunday launched its ambulance service in Maidan area, at a function held at Hira School Kumbar.

MNA Sahibzada Yaqub Khan inaugurated the service.

Speaking on the occasion, Yaqub Khan and others appreciated AKF for its humanitarian services and said the foundation had included three more ambulances in its rescue mission in Lower Dir.
