LAHORE: PPP Senator Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan does not see any possibility of military takeover or midterm election in Pakistan.
Commenting on the outcome of sit-ins by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek, he said the resignation of the prime minister was not insight.
He was talking to media persons at the Lahore High Court on Monday.
He said it was not 1993 or 1999 when resignations were taken from the then premiers on gunpoint. He said Imran Khan would have to withdraw his demand of PM’s resignation.
However, Mr Ahsan was of the view that ending of dharnawithout PM’s resignation would damage Imran politically. He said there was no constitutional way of assemblies’ dissolution other than an advice by the prime minister. And the PM was not going for it, he added.
About decision of the MQM quitting the PPP-led Sindh government, Barrister Ahsan said the MQM was a good guest who always came back. He said the MQM always wanted to be in rule especially in the Sindh government. He said many governments had been changed during the last decade but Ishratul Ibad of MQM remained Governor of Sindh.
He said Dr Tahirul Qadri should admit the reality after seeing an ‘unimpressive’ public gathering at Minar-i-Pakistan. The PML-Q was a party of few camps, he added.
