A showcasing of the works of Pakistan’s fashion veterans marked the launch of Zong’s 4G at a local hotel. The models metamorphosed from Deepak Perwani’s sequined shorts and light jackets to flimsy tie ‘n’ dye chiffon tunics designed by Maheen Karim.

Sadaf Malaterre’s sultry cocktail dresses with bead and sequin work came next, followed by Faraz Manan’s bespoke swoop-back pleated twill and glamorised shirtwaists mostly in beige. Sania Maskatiya’s colourful silhouettes made a perfect transition from trousers to pants while Sana Safinaz showcased light-catching sheen of backless satin gowns in light tones.

The fashion segment ended with Shela Chatoor’s gold-rush long dresses and saris and Ayesha Hashwani’s embroidered dresses in punchy hues.

An acrobatic dance performance by Sonu Dangerous and his group and a live performance by the UK-based RDB was also featured. The programme was conducted by Juggan Kazim and Faizan Haque.

‘Thar’struck

The Old Associates of Kinnaird Society’s (Oaks) recent charity fundraiser Saffron Night featured a fashion show by Gul Ahmed to highlight the plight and raise money for building wells for the water-stricken people of Thar, as well as to introduce and encourage the women in the art of making handicrafts.

The show showcased the beautiful embroideries and jewellery originating from the region along with the costumes worn both by both the sexes, while fusing them with latest fashion trends. The first segment presented a line of pristine whites with embroidery and patchwork accessorised by the trademark white bangles worn by Thari women. The next segment showcased kurtis, Thari saris, mirror-work cholis etc. Embroidered formal outfits in peacock colours were followed by the more western line featuring pants and miniskirts, capes and jackets.

The essence of Thar and the simplistic beauty of the desert region was effectively recreated through the ambience.
