National Security Committee to meet over India-Pakistan border firing

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to convene a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) in the wake of ongoing firing at the Line of Control (LoC) and the working boundary dividing Pakistan and India.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at 10 am Friday, October 10.

“The committee is expected to meet this week in Islamabad with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair," a top government official told Dawn on Wednesday.

Along with the top military leadership, the PM’s adviser on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz, Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Information Minister Pervez Rashid will attend the meeting on Friday.

The military leadership will take the committee into confidence over the latest situation on the Line of Control and the working boundary, and a joint strategy would be adopted which may give a strong message to India, said the sources.

The meeting follows a rise in tensions across the Pakistan-India border, with as many as 10 civilians killed and over a dozen injured in the past three days in cross-border firing on both sides of the border.

An intense bout of firing by Indian troops continued near Sialkot late Tuesday, killing at least three Pakistani civilians and damaging buildings and houses located along the working boundary.

The problem at LoC is seasonal. It happens every year just before winter kicks in. There is a troop movement at that time on either side of the border. Perhaps the two armies get too close at that time and in fear of shootings form the other side they start to shoot at each other. Something to investigate!

Strong message to India? Yes, if you have any sense message will be of cease fire and peace talks and if India has any sense then it will accept it and talk peace (yes at least talk peace). After couple of weeks of stupidity, all both nations are going to get is 10s of families scarred for life, property worth crores destroyed and 100s of liters of poison added to millions of gallons already stored in each others people heart.

Speaks volumes about the Country of Pakistan and how it has got it's whole civilian-military setup all wrong, upside-down, and cart-before-the-horse. India is trying to test Pakistan's patience, as it knows that most of the Pakistani politicians are busy in speeches and blame games. I want all of you to remember Gen Mussaraff today, when he declared the seize fire, it was in truthful means because he was like Modi, he mean busyness. He came out something better soliton for Kashmir also. Mr NS is nothing but a politician whose promises are false. More over he can't contrôlée the Army also. God bless this reason. Better get the meeting done quickly and come to some conclusions.. Indian mood is hardening with the media playing the photos of shelling/civilian damage etc repeatedly.. what happens if India open up sectors where our forces have upper hand in terms strategic position etc? Dont assume that firing will remain localised in the sectors currently engaged. SOmeone has to come up with a solution Both sides will keep accusing each other.. whoever takes first step towards de-escalating faces political suicide internally...

Their history of human civilization needs thorough review to find and mend their astray. India should revisit Gandhi's non-violence approach while Pakistan needs to find the road-map to conflict resolution without what has defied the success for 67 years without even a ray of light.

I am from India. I came to this site to know what news published in Pakisthan. Seen several civilians got killed in Pakistan too like India. First, it must be known in fact which country is violating the cease fire agreement, is it India or Pakistan? since, both countries are blaming each others, both governments are convening meetings to send a strong signal, i see the same stupidity here as i see in any other indian media channels. instead, we must ensure people on both sides do not get killed and such incident do not take place either by India or Pakistan. Also, dialogue should be started by India to settle the dispute and Pakistan should also control Jihadis elements on its territory instead encouraging them to wage war against civilian population.

This problem is not concerning UN council or United nation, these does hold concious, jurisdiction and any power to solve the real problem existing as not picking responsibility. India and Pakistan has to salve the issue of Kashmir. To day there is no value of resolutions, no law, no legality, no responsibility, no character, consitituional or unconstituional, no concius any where in any nation. To day the real force and strength is the large country, large economy, large population, might is right. Pakistan and India are not even closer to these facts. Mr. NS and COAS, we have to choice either to surrender or to live honorably.Some live in R/wind other live in GHQ, we live on border, we dont want to die every day, every week, we can not afford our women every time captured by Indian forces. Let us fight once and for all, either do or die. Death time is fixed, What you are thinking in your meeting. U got kill the spider otherwise no limit of tries. Let us march on to war. 67 years dialogue, meetings did not bring us any thing.
